What do you offer?
Nostalgia Film–based in Austin, Texas–specializes in Super 8mm film shot with vintage professional Super 8 film cameras and cinematic-style wedding videography shot on HD videocameras and combines the two for a  Hybrid film that will be a treasured heirloom for generations.

Additionally Nostalgia Film photographs weddings and portraits both digitally and on film.

What primary style do you identify with?

The photographs and films we create are photo-journalistic and romantic. Our films feature short-form storytelling. Super 8 captures the magic of a nostalgic home movie with the very best moments and vignettes from your wedding day.

For my shooting style, I try to remain unobtrusive and document the day as it unfolds candidly and rarely stage anything, aside from the photo session part of your day. We work closely with your other vendors to capture the sweet, memorable moments that comprise your day.

What do your packages include?

Read more here or contact us.

What formats can the final video be in?

Packages come with online highlight films and we’ve recently added a thumb drive to all of our packages. You can also add on DVD or Blu-Ray packages with keepsake tins.
With all Super 8 packages the couple gets the celluloid film for archival and heirloom purposes, and we include a sheet on caring for your film to help make it last 50 years or longer.
Online gallery with beautifully edited images with reprint release. Options for canvases, prints, and additional edits.
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes–please let us know if your venue needs a faxed copy.
Where is your business based?
We have a home studio in Pflugerville, but are open to traveling all over to document special events and keep our travel and destination wedding pricing reasonable for this reason.
Do you offer demo DVDs for potential clients to look at?
I have a page with wedding videography and portfolios on Vimeo and YouTube and can give passwords to the longer full-length edits after meeting with clients. Upon request, I can also mail a hard-copy DVD/Blu-Ray.
Photography portfolios are here & on Facebook:
I love to edit to a carefully chosen soundtrack to tell a story for highlight films and cinematic films. I am very creative and flexible in editing.
Do you have lighting equipment to accommodate a more dimly lit event?
I work with on-camera LED lighting panels. Super 8 isn’t the ideal medium for very low light situations, but I have a couple tricks up my sleeve and can use particular film stocks to fit your venue and lighting. Please talk more with me during a consultation to make sure we’ll all be on the same page about lighting at your venue(s) and that I can create the best package for you!
How many videographers do you work with?
Shanna heads up Nostalgia Film with Victor, and I have additional trusted second shooters and assistants that I work with as needed.
Does the client get to meet the phtographers/videographers before the event?
Of course! It’s so important that we get to know and are comfortable with each other, so that the cameras and I are less obtrusive on the wedding day. Plus getting to know clients helps us best create an unique film. I will often e-mail with the couple over the course of the engagement and are happy to help with suggestions, ideas, vendor recommendations, and more.
Let’s meet and chat over coffee! Or we can talk via phone or over Skype for those not in the Austin metro area. Contact me here.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Shanna will be there, and depending on the package option, a second-shooter will be as well.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
I never book more than one event in a day and prefer to have only one wedding in a weekend to ensure the highest quality, but will work the very occasional double-header!
Do you have a replacement photographer/videographer in case you become unavailable on the event day?
I do have a roster of back-up shooters if needed.
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day of?
A lot!
Multiple (three to four) vintage Super 8 film cameras, four HD cameras if HD is being included, several lenses, lots of film stocks to choose from based on lighting conditions, light panels, audio equipment, tripods, monopods, a glider, stedicam, and more.
Four to five HD cameras including a Canon 5D Mark III, several lenses, film cameras, lighting equipment.
Partial Gear List
Do you bring backup equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes – batteries, cameras, extra film stock, and more!
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We do ask that the client provide something to eat during a short break for six-hour weddings or longer. We like to take a break during the dinner and request to be within eye/earshot of the reception, so I can be ready when cake cutting and toasts or dances happen afterward.
Do you charge overtime?
I charge an hourly rate if clients want me to stay longer than the hours stated in the contract. Please let me know before or during your wedding as soon as you know you’d like extra coverage.
Do you give access to your raw footage?
I do not include the raw footage in our packages, since the Super 8 packages include most of the footage and the reels. For HD/Hybrid packages, it can be added on for an additional $500.
Do you reserve the right to use the video in the future for deals, contents, etc.?
Yes, for promotional/portfolio/advertising purposes, all of which is outlined in the contract.
Is the client involved in the video editing process? If so, how much input does the client have in editing?
I am flexible on this. I love clients that let me have full creative control, but I also love input on what will make your film special for you! I also welcome input on the kinds of Super 8 you love–very vintage or more fine film, black & white, or vivid color, which is good to know a while before the big day so I can order the right film stocks. I like to discuss it all at the consultation and in a follow-up questionnaire. I put a lot of time into choosing the very best licensed music to complement the highlight film, too, so I like to get a feel for the couple’s favorite music to help me choose the best song.
How long does it take for the client to get the final video?  Photos?
I like to share the shorter highlight film with the couple as soon as I am able–generally within a couple months of the wedding as I’m working with my lab in Los Angeles for Super 8 (film takes a minimum of two weeks to be developed and telecined). The full package delivery takes approximately four to six months from the wedding date, depending on the number of weddings I shoot during a season and the time in the season.

I invest at least two weeks to a month of work into editing each wedding–from logging hours of footage and selecting the musical soundtrack to cutting together the footage, to creating the custom DVD and Blu-Ray menus and packaging. Turn-around time will be clearly stated in the contract, and I am always happy to keep in touch with you to keep you posted! Please contact me for special circumstances and rush edits.

Nostalgia Film strives to give you a final film to cherish for a lifetime made with thoughtfulness and care.

Photos take less time–sneak peeks within the week, and the final collection in the time we quote to you.
