ISES Austin June Awards Gala – Vintage ’20s Event Film

Kevin of Brass Tacks reached out to us to document ISESannual gala. Since it was a ’20s theme, it was a perfect fit for our style, and we were excited to shoot a ’20s-inspired event, as in the past our Pinterest board and blog devoted to the roaring ’20s have been some of our most popular ever!

So on June 20th, Nostalgia Film joined ISES for an evening for decadent glamour at One World Theatre, recognizing the best of the best in Austin’s event industry and inducting the 2013-2014 ISES Austin Board. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dancing, merriment, and music and libations in the Speakeasy Lounge were some of the features of the evening, as were Austin Phonograph Company, Dapper Dames, and DJ Gatsby.

While we chose not to shoot vintage-style Super 8mm to keep costs down and turn-around time quick, Michael shot HD and we overlaid actual film while editing. I was traveling all week for a conference–and met Michael in Dallas shortly after to film a Super 8 wedding–so many kudos to him for filming it and creating it all on his own!

’50s Style Retro Wedding Ideas | Vintage Wedding Videography

Posted on May 29, 2013 in wedding DIY, wedding planning, wedding trends, wedding videography, weddings | Comments Off on ’50s Style Retro Wedding Ideas | Vintage Wedding Videography

When I first started planning my own wedding, I was in love with the idea of a ’50s inspired wedding. I’m obsessed with anything mid-century, and the thought of having a flared, tea-length gown and a colorful crinoline got me excited. I also was entertaining the idea of a Sunday brunch wedding, complete with punch, which would have fit a retro ’50s wedding perfectly (and kept costs low)! Ultimately, stumbling across the perfect, eclectic venue led me on a completely different path, but I still kept the retro polka-dotted bird cage veil and a few other ’50s-inspired elements like the aqua and red palette and my peep-toes shoes in our wedding day style. Here’s some ’50s wedding inspiration for you! Find more on our Pinterest board.

We’d love to film a ’50s inspired wedding on Super 8mm film! It would look so chic and nostalgic on colorful reversal film! Watch this Dallas wedding film on Super 8mm with retro touches (her dress, his suit, her glasses, and Audrey Hepburn’s Roman Holiday playing in the background!)

Twenties-inspired weddings are all the rage, thanks to lots of trend wedding pieces, a lot of nostalgia, and The Great Gatsby coming to screens soon!

We are dying to film a 1920s wedding in black & white Super 8 film.

Here are my favorite Pinterest picks for inspiration for the planning bride.

Lots more here!

Our Ten Wedding Predictions for 2013

Posted on Dec 13, 2012 in wedding planning, wedding trends, weddings | 2 comments

There’s a discussion over on Bridal Tweet about Predictions for 2013 Weddings. We sat down and came up with ten predictions of our own based on what we’ve been seeing in late 2012 and are hearing about from our brides and grooms for next year. Here were our guesses about 2012–We were spot on about our summer camp wedding prediction for 2012… later a summer camp wedding we filmed showed up in the New York Times!

Let us know in the comments what you think the biggest trends of 2013 weddings will be, if you are incorporating any of them, and which ones you think we got right for 2013!

Wedding gown with lace sleeves

Wedding gowns with lace sleeves will be popular in 2013!

Tiny desserts tiny pies wedding

Tiny desserts and tiny pies are all the rage!

    • Gowns with Lace Sleeves– I’m seeing this a lot on celebrity gowns right now especially with small cap sleeves, as well as our own brides, so I think it will start showing up all over.
    • Vineyard Weddings– We’ve done a couple vineyard weddings this fall at Duchman Family Winery and have another booked for next year at Becker Vineyards, so I see this trend continuing. Who doesn’t love wine!?
Winery Wedding Austin Texas

Winery weddings will be hot in 2013!

    • Ranch Weddings – Maybe this is because we’re in Texas, but ranch weddings will continue to a very popular wedding choice! We often film at Star Hill Ranch and Vista West Ranch, and we can’t wait for our 2013 weddings at Vista West Ranch and Cibolo Creek Ranch in Marfa!
    • Bicycles – Bicycles keep showing up in weddings as part of the decor and in the photo shoots, and I think this trend will continue! Especially in a bike-friendly town like Austin.
Bicycles Wedding Decor

Bicycles as wedding decor… A 2013 trend!

  • Selective DIY – Brides and grooms will no longer spread themselves thin trying to DIY everything, but will choose a couple thoughtful choices to add their personal touches to add to their wedding day.
  • Hand-Painted, Rustic Signs – Speaking of DIY… These are hot always, and I don’t see them going away soon!
  • Blush & Pink Color Palette – I’ve seen lots of bridesmaids in blush and brides in pink! I think we’ll keep seeing this in 2013.
  • Sparkly, Sequined Bridesmaids – There’s no reason to put your favorite ladies in something dowdy or a dress they’ll only wear once. I think letting bridesmaids pick a sparkly, sequined cocktail dress that they can get a lot of use from will be a trend, continuing on the heels of all the gold we’ve seen!

Sparkly, sequined bridesmaids will be big in 2013!

The New York Times’ Field Notes: When the ‘Aisle’ Is Slippery and Buggy

Posted on Sep 27, 2012 in featured, general, press, real weddings, wedding trends, weddings | Comments Off on The New York Times’ Field Notes: When the ‘Aisle’ Is Slippery and Buggy

Wow, imagine my surprise and delight yesterday as I clicked on a tweet from the just-launched WedOverHeels (when a tweet mentions “nostalgia” and “summer camp,” I will click it!):

Yes! “Nostalgia is back in weddings” @darcymiller RT @nytimesvows Field Notes: Summer Camps as Destination Weddings

…And realized it was a The New York Times feature of  a couple’s summer camp wedding we filmed back in April! This was such a fun and unique wedding to have filmed while working with Whitney Martin Photography and Wedding Warriors, that it’s been so neat to see it featured on Offbeat Bride, Bridal Musings, and now The New York Times!

“Nostalgia is back in weddings,” according to Darcy Miller, the editorial director for Martha Stewart Weddings… We could not agree more, since nostalgia is at the very heart of everything we do! We wrote about the summer camp phenomena in April on our blog.
