Announcing the Premiere of ZOMBIE DAZE: A Super 8 B&W Short Film

Posted on Oct 10, 2016 in Austin film scene, filmmaking, films, movies & film, Nostalgia Film | Comments Off on Announcing the Premiere of ZOMBIE DAZE: A Super 8 B&W Short Film

During September and October, students of Austin School of Film and HIVE Arts Collective shot, hand-processed, telecined, and edited their own Super 8mm films. I was inspired to make my first zombie film, starring my good friend Rachael, my partner Victor, my dad, and my toddler daughter, as well as about 15 awesome local Pflugerville residents who came out and gave it their all as our horde of zombies. The result, a film called “Zombie Daze,” premieres online for the first time today! It premiered at the Austin School of Film Friday night to a fun, enthusiastic crowd.

Do let us know what you think!

And happy October and Halloween!

Happy Father’s Day from Nostalgia Film: Family Super 8mm Film

Posted on Jun 15, 2014 in About Us, filmmaking, general, Nostalgia Film, super 8 | Comments Off on Happy Father’s Day from Nostalgia Film: Family Super 8mm Film

I sneakily edited this when Michael didn’t know, so I could surprise him with a viewing for his first Father’s Day!

It features our daughter Zora’s first Christmas at home (at just a month old!), Easter at Whirlaway Farm & Garden (see if you can’t spy Natasha of EcoChic Floral!) as well as Zora’s first visit to where we got married, during the annual party at Casa Rio de Colores!

We wish all you new dads and dads-to-be in the Nostalgia Film family a very, very wonderful Father’s Day!

Shot on Kodak stocks (B&W Tri-X and 100D) with vintage Canon cameras. Music licensed via The Music Bed.

Quirky Super 8mm Dallas Wedding Film

Posted on Aug 23, 2013 in filmmaking, films, real weddings, super 8, super 8 weddings, wedding videography, wedding videography Texas, weddings | Comments Off on Quirky Super 8mm Dallas Wedding Film

I don’t think Emmie & Dustin could have been any cuter! When I first talked to them, Emmie was drawn to vintage Super 8mm to capture her wedding because of her love of the past and all things Kennedys. She even had Roman Holiday playing as a backdrop throughout their reception (which was both fun and visually stunning on film and photos!)

I was so charmed by them throughout the day, from the JFK talisman Emmie had tucked in the pocket of her wedding gown (love a gown with pockets!) while she was getting ready, to her fab etsy finds and their engagement and bridal portraits (a studious and glamorous shot in a library!) by Nine Photography, to their cupcake food truck at their reception, and all the moments in between. And admittedly I almost teared up to their first dance (to the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs’ “Hysteric“). See more from their day on Nine Photography’s blog.

We wish Emmie & Dustin much happiness!

ISES Austin June Awards Gala – Vintage ’20s Event Film

Posted on Jul 1, 2013 in events, filmmaking, general, HD wedding videography, wedding pros, wedding trends, wedding videography, wedding videography Austin, wedding videography hill country, wedding videography Texas | Comments Off on ISES Austin June Awards Gala – Vintage ’20s Event Film

Kevin of Brass Tacks reached out to us to document ISESannual gala. Since it was a ’20s theme, it was a perfect fit for our style, and we were excited to shoot a ’20s-inspired event, as in the past our Pinterest board and blog devoted to the roaring ’20s have been some of our most popular ever!

So on June 20th, Nostalgia Film joined ISES for an evening for decadent glamour at One World Theatre, recognizing the best of the best in Austin’s event industry and inducting the 2013-2014 ISES Austin Board. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dancing, merriment, and music and libations in the Speakeasy Lounge were some of the features of the evening, as were Austin Phonograph Company, Dapper Dames, and DJ Gatsby.

While we chose not to shoot vintage-style Super 8mm to keep costs down and turn-around time quick, Michael shot HD and we overlaid actual film while editing. I was traveling all week for a conference–and met Michael in Dallas shortly after to film a Super 8 wedding–so many kudos to him for filming it and creating it all on his own!
